Sungrow announced that it will supply its turnkey PV inverter solutions and PV panel cleaning solutions to a 480 MW PV plant in Chile's Atacama Desert. The project is expected to be contribute to the country's long-term energy policy 2050.

The project covers an area of over 400 hectares, approximately 370 football fields. Expected to complete commissioning in 2023, the project will generate 1,145 GWh annually, powering 7,5000 households, equivalent to 916,200 tons of carbon dioxide.

The project is located in the Atacama Desert, the driest nonpolar desert in the world, exhibiting a unique combination of environmental extremes including extreme dryness and high solar radiation levels. This environment makes it one of the hottest solar hubs on the planet, though it poses great challenges to the equipment.

As a result of the optimal IP65 high protection capability, Sungrow's SG6250HV-MV inverter solution is resilient to sandy and dry conditions. The 6.25 MW solution also equips the anti-PID (Potential Induced Degradation) function, which can recover power degradation in the PV modules, enabling a maximum yield and longer lifetime for modules. In addition, the solution has a built-in DC energy storage interface, supporting direct connection to the energy storage system; thus, enabling customers to enjoy the storage function for future energy usage.

In the interim, Sungrow's subsidiary Sunpure offers 374 units of panel cleaning robots. The autonomous waterless cleaning solution gently removes sand to ensure unparalleled power generation.

The project's EPC, POWERCHINA Huadong Engineering Corporation Limited (HDEC) is a global leading engineering and construction company. The companies began their long-term partnership five years ago. The joint projects between HDEC and Sungrow span across the Middle East, Malaysia, Indonesia, Pakistan, and China with over 1GW of total installations.

"Chile is leading the way in sustainable development and sets a severe requirement for the project stakeholders. We value Sungrow's extensive and proven experience and are excited about what is to come with this agreement as Sungrow works towards minimizing LCOE and streamlining O&M," commented Liu Chengxi, General Manager of Americas, HDEC.

"Our actions are firmly grounded in customer demands, to offer best-in-class products and services needed to thrive in a low-carbon world. We believe that being a part of the Atacama project is a tremendous opportunity for Sungrow to create even more customer value and business growth," said James Wu, Vice President of Sungrow.
