    Meyer Burger Di­vests its Wafer­ing Busi­ness to Pre­ci­sion Sur­fac­ing So­lu­tions

    Meyer Burger Technology Ltd announced today that it will sell its photovoltaic and specialised materials (e.g. semiconductor and sapphire glass industries) wafering equipment and service business to Precision Surfacing Solutions (PSS) (formerly Lapmaster Wolters Ltd). As part of the transaction, significant parts of Meyer Burger's current production facilities in Thun as well as around 100 employees involved in the wafering technology portfolio in Thun and the relevant service locations worldwide will also be transferred to PSS. Completion of the contract is subject to standard closing conditions. The closing of the transaction is expected to be completed towards the end of the first quarter of 2019. The agreed purchase price is CHF 50 million in cash, which represents approximately one times net sales of the wafering equipment business. The contract also includes an earn-out component based on certain revenue levels in 2019. Both Meyer Burger and PSS view the transaction as an important strategic milestone, which will further strengthen two global technology leaders.

    Edisun Power to Acquire 49MW PV Project in Portugal

    Edisun Power has signed a contract to acquire a 49MW photovoltaic construction project in north-eastern Portugal. The project is being sold by Smartenergy Invest AG. The closing of the sale is subject to customary market conditions and should be completed in the second quarter of 2019 at the latest.

    Belectric Expands its Operations & Maintenance Business in the US

    Belectric has been awarded as the long-term service provider for the preventive and corrective maintenance of solar plants in the US. The solar plants are located in Maryland, Washington DC, Indiana, Michigan and New Jersey. The two portfolios consist of commercial and utility scale ground mounted solar plants as well as rooftop and carport PV plants with a combined capacity of around 53.5MW in total. Inovateus Solar is the site manager for a portfolio throughout the Midwest and Northeast with a separate contract adding plants in a regional portfolio around Washington DC and Maryland. Including these plants, Belectric is operating and maintaining a solar portfolio with an installed capacity of 138MW in the US.

    Solar Frontier Achieves World Record Thin-Film Solar Cell Efficiency of 23.35%

    Solar Frontier K.K. has set a new world record for thin-film solar cell efficiency. In joint research with the National Research and Development Agency's New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization of Japan, Solar Frontier achieved 23.35% conversion efficiency on a 1cm² cell using cadmium (Cd)-free CIS technology. The result was independently verified by the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology.
